july 27

Time to travel to Sweden again - like last time I was somewhat apprehensive not least of all because the previous few days TV news had been dominated by the French Concorde tragedy. Nevertheless I hit the road shortly after 1:00pm to drive to the airport and after parking the car and getting the bus to the terminal building I was checking in for my flight by 4:00pm. Less than an hour to wait until boarding the aircraft. Ha, nice theory anyhow. The flight was almost exactly one hour late leaving Stansted but at 35 quid for the flight I am not about to complain too much.

Once on terrafirma in Sweden I was waiting for my bag to appear and my mobile phone rang. It was my friend Rolle "Have you left the airport yet?" says he - "No, I am still waiting for my bag, why where are you?" I ask. He laughs and I guess that he is probably on the other side of customs and he was with another old friend Petra. I get my hire car and I call Bengt (Eva's Dad) to let him know what time I expect to be in Helsingborg by 11:00pm as the plane was an hour late arriving. Petra and Rolle drive off and I follow them - a short mystery tour of southern Sweden ensues, ha ha!! Shortly after 10:30pm we arrive outside Rolle's apartment in Landskrona and he lends me a mobile phone for the weekend so that I don't have to pay punitive international roaming charges on my own mobile!! I continue onto Helsingborg and arrive outside my "home" for the weekend at precisely 11:00pm - just in time !!

Bengt and Pia come down to greet me and to arrange my parking space. It is their wedding anniversary and they tell me that Eva telephoned them, they thought to congratulate them well yes, but as well to say "I am now Mrs. Lundqvist" - she and Pär had got married that day without telling anyone. Bengt and Pia were clearly very happy about this and I was delighted to hear the great news and made a note to do some "wedding present" shopping during the weekend. Time for bed!!
